We’re thrilled to welcome Marianne (“Mari”) McCown to Triad Psych. With roughly 20 years of clinical and leadership experience across private practice, hospital settings, community clinics, and correctional care, Mari brings a deeply humane, evidence-based approach to therapy that will expand and strengthen the care we offer at Triad.
A clinician who pairs heart with evidence
Mari’s work sits at the intersection of compassionate care and rigorous, research-backed practice. Trained at the Universidade Federal do Ceará (Bachelor’s and Master’s in Psychology), she has built a practice grounded in CBT and DBT, and she is EMDR-certified — positioning her as a natural fit for trauma-focused treatment. Across decades of work, she’s helped people navigate anxiety, depression, complex trauma, and life transitions using individualized treatment plans and mindfulness-based approaches.
Experience across settings — from private practice to clinical leadership
One of the things that makes Mari unique is the breadth of settings she’s led and served. She ran a private practice for many years, working closely with adults and couples on long-term therapeutic goals. As Clinical Director at Hospital Mira & Lopez in Brazil, she oversaw multidisciplinary teams, implemented evidence-based programs, and ensured compliance with clinical standards. More recently, she has supported community clinics and correctional settings — including ongoing work inside Hancock State Prison — where she refined skills in crisis intervention, case management, and building safe therapeutic spaces in challenging environments.
This variety means Mari understands both the one-to-one work of psychotherapy and the organizational systems that allow excellent care to scale — supervision, staff training, program design, and collaboration with prescribers.
A collaborative clinician who values teamwork
Mari’s resume highlights work as a medication-management liaison and as a trainer and mentor to staff. At Triad Psych she’ll be a connector — coordinating closely with psychiatrists and primary care providers, supervising junior clinicians, and sharing practical training on trauma-informed care, EMDR basics, and mindfulness interventions. Her experience directing clinical operations prepares her to help strengthen processes that support clinicians and improve client outcomes.
Programs we’re excited about
Mari is an author and program developer — two published works on resilience and mindfulness underline her ability to translate clinical work into accessible, structured programs:
- Unbreakable Mind: Mastering Life’s Transitions Through Mindful Resilience — a lens on navigating change with intention.
- Mind Full: A 4-Week Program to Control Anxiety — Since Day One — Using Mindfulness — a ready template for short, skills-based group work.
We’re planning to pilot a 4-week mindfulness/anxiety group based on her program, and she’ll also be rolling out short staff workshops on trauma-informed practice and EMDR principles.
What clients and colleagues can expect
Clients can expect trauma-focused, evidence-based therapy that blends CBT/DBT techniques, EMDR when appropriate, and mindfulness practices tailored to real life. Colleagues can expect an experienced supervisor and trainer who values cultural competence and practical skill building. Mari is trilingual and can provide therapy in English, Portuguese, and Spanish, expanding access to care for clients who feel most comfortable working in their native language. Mari’s international background — plus ESOL training — brings important cultural humility and language flexibility to our team, helping us better serve diverse communities.
